Take the Union Road exit, past the shops, toward the railway line that cuts through Mont Albert Village.
The streets here are narrow. Trees meet overhead. The houses — Californian bungalows, English-style cottages — sit quietly behind picket fences. Some have names on the gate, not numbers.
We delivered to a house near Mont Albert Road last month. The note said: "For Julia, who loves a Tuesday." No birthday. No anniversary. Just a Tuesday. The woman who answered carried the flowers inside without a word, then came back with a small vase, empty, and asked: "Would you stay while I arrange them?" We did.
That's Mont Albert. Quiet enough to ask for time.
Another regular stop: a weatherboard on Hamilton Street, near the village. A gentleman orders the same small bouquet every two weeks. Always for himself. "I like looking at something that's alive," he said once. We leave it on the front porch, where the cat sleeps.
