The houses here are mostly brick. Gardens established. Some have letterboxes with names hand-painted. Others just a number. Either way, the person living there has likely been there a while.
We delivered to a house near Mitcham Primary last month. The note said: "For Lyn, from the book club." No occasion. Just Thursday morning. The woman who opened the door was still in her dressing gown. She laughed when she saw the flowers. "I forgot it was my turn."

Another house, deeper in, near the Yarra Valley Grammar end. A widower ordered the same arrangement every six weeks for two years. Always for his wife. Always left on the kitchen bench. "She used to cut flowers from the garden," he said once. "The garden's gone, but the bench is still there."
